Music and Memories Coffeehouse: December 7th

We have an exciting evening of music coming up soon and we want to share the information with everyone! We will be hosting a Music and Memories Coffeehouse on Saturday, December 7th beginning at 7 PM in Fellowship Hall at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church. Several bands are scheduled to perform, including our own Becky & Bill Bridges with C-Side Alley, and we’re hoping a few others will join the fun. Tickets can be purchased at the door; adults $10 and children under 12 will be free. Refreshments will be available for purchase as well. All monies raised will be donated to the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church and to the Sean Burk Children’s Fund. These musical events are a wonderful time so plan to come share with evening with us!

All Saints’ Day Remembrances

On Sunday, November 3rd, our service included a time of reflection and remembrance of loved ones who have gone on to be with the Lord over the past year. All Saint’s Day is an outward acknowledgement of what these people meant to those who are left behind. As you can see from the photo, a candle was lit for each person named in this celebration of life. The following persons were remembered during this time:

Dorothy Lavieri, Poochie Montgomery, Edna Irene Collins, Ethel Bailey, Herbert A. Adams, Jr., George Stickles, Peter North, Joseph M. Asher, John Tilley, Kitty Kelly, Walter Conrad, Eleanor Day, Katherine Bazzano, Kenneth Brunson, C.J. Bextell, Gregory Ayres, Eleanor Dominy, Bernie Passini, Ernest King, Virginia J. Bohn, Robert Hagen, Jose Velar, Sean Paul Burke, John Quihn, Shirla Matthews, Mort Hendrickson, Kenneth James Lamb, Diane Hogard, Eleanor Hulse, Barbara Winn, Walter Jespersen, Jr., Mary Roberge, Gertrude Samtinelli-Haas, Megan Marotte, Staff Sargent Michael Ollis, Laurel McConnell, Mary Tolinski, Yeon Ok Lee, and all the victims in the Newtown tragedy.

Rest in peace, dear ones.

Tag Sale

Our church will be hosting a tag sale on Saturday, September 14th. There will be plenty of interesting items to look over as well as a Bake Sale to tempt you. Remember that someone’s ‘trash’ is someone else’s treasure, so while you’re out enjoying the beauty of the day plan to stop in and find a treasure here. The sale begins at 9 AM and will conclude at 3 PM. All proceeds will be going to our capital campaign.

Rally Day’s a comin’!

Rally Day always marks the beginning our church’s fall activities, and we’ve got plenty going on at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church. Sunday, September 8th will see the start of Sunday School for all the children. Following the worship service, the Sunday School teachers and children will be hosting a wonderful coffee hour (I’ve hear some of the menu and it’s going to be awesome!).

On Saturday, September 21st we’ll host the first of the two fall Bean Hole Bean Suppers (the second supper will be on October 19th). See the Bean Hole tab across the top of the screen to find out about the menu, the times of service, and where to call to make reservations.

In October our church will host our annual Pumpkin Patch field trip for the Barkhamsted School kindergarten and first grade students. We provide several harvest/fall stories, some games, a healthy snack, and each child will leave with a small pumpkin to remember the event. Our Pumpkin Patch crew really enjoys seeing all the children come and reports indicate that this is one of the favorite field trips of the year for the children.

In November, our women’s group will again host the annual Christmas Fair. Here you’ll find handcrafted items, handmade knit and crochet items, a bake sale, and Attic Treasures. In addition you can have a photo taken with Santa, and then take time to enjoy a hearty homemade lunch in our Christmas Cafe. Plan to start your Christmas shopping with us!

As you can see, fall is a busy time at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church and we welcome you to not only come and enjoy our special events, but come to worship with us on Sunday mornings as well. Everyone is welcome!!

Sr. High Youth Group Bake Sale

Our high school youth group will be hosting a bake sale on Saturday, June 8th from 11AM – 4PM at the Walmart in Torrington. If you’re able, they would appreciate a donation of a baked good or two to help with the sale. Please bring your food item to the church at 10AM and Tom will transport it to Torrington for you. If you are unable to help with a donation of a baked item, why not stop in to the sale and pick up something for your family to enjoy. The money raised will help build the Youth Group treasury and go toward their various mission projects.

Mother’s Day Spring Fling Tea was an awesome time!

The annual Mother’s Day Tea, hosted by the United Methodist Women, was again a wonderful event. More than 60 ladies, and a few gents, enjoyed an afternoon of food, fun, and fellowship. There was a ‘tea cup’ auction, hat making and dress up parade, as well as an opportunity to have a family group photo taken. Our thanks to everyone who attended and made the day such fun, and especially to all the ladies, and Leigh and Jay, who worked so hard to ensure that everyone had a great time. Enjoy some pictures of the fun!
