The Community Food Bank, housed at the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, supports the towns of New Hartford and Barkhamsted. Their hours of operation are listed as well as a phone number to call for more information or to schedule a donation.
Christmas Services at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church
On Sunday, December 23rd, there will be an 8am and a 9am worship service. On Christmas Eve, December 24th, there will be a noon worship service for those who begin their family celebrations in the evening or for those who are not able to drive at night. There will also be a family worship service at 5pm. Everyone is invited to come and welcome baby Jesus to the world.
Advent Study 2018
This year our church Advent Study will take place on Wednesday evenings at 7pm beginning tomorrow, December 5th. The study is based on the book Down to Earth by Mike Slaughter, and can be purchased from Pastor Lee for $11.99. There are still more session meetings for this study so it’s not too late to join in.
Mitten Tree
Every year our church sets up a Mitten Tree and asks our congregation to help decorate it with hats, mittens, scarves, and gloves which are then donated to the Winsted Salvation Army to help keep our neighbors warm during this winter season. Here’s the “before” picture…..
and beside it the “after” picture! Thank you to all those folks who so generously made a donation to the Mitten Tree. You’ll also notice that this year we’ve included a basket for donations of socks for the Winsted YMCA Homeless Shelter. As you can see, the basket is full! Again, thank you to everyone for your donations.

2018 Advent Bible Study

Here is how the study is described by Cokesbury:
A virgin birth. God’s son…a helpless baby. Fleeing certain death. Nothing about the Christmas story is ordinary. Mike Slaughter says it’s enough to confound the mind and make the heart contrite. In his book, Down to Earth, Slaughter presents a four-week Advent study that opens up God’s Christmas surprise to us and examines how it changed everything.
