Our New Pastor Announced
God continues to have great plans for PVUMC as I am pleased to announce that on July 1, 2021 the Reverend Barbara Schaffer will be our new pastor. Some of you may remember that she attended our church for many years, and it is in our church that she received her call to ministry. During our appointment meeting with the SPRC committee on Friday Pastor Barbara stated, “I feel like I’m coming home!” She has pastored full time in three churches over the last 20 years. She is retiring from the First United Methodist Church of Shelton in June and moving to her house in Torrington, CT. She raised her two sons in New Hartford, CT and has many ties in the community. She has held various positions such as New Hartford Finance Department, a Volunteer EMT, CPR Instructor, President of PTO and Chair of American Red Cross. In her church ministries she has sat on many associations and boards such as UMARMY Safety Director, Town of Shelton, Drug Prevention Committee, Natural Church Development Coach, Conference Committee on Finance and Administration, and sat in on clergy associations in all three towns that she ministered in.
Pastor Barbara’s first service with us will be on Sunday, July 4, 2021. She is also looking forward to being a part of our PVUMC float in the July 5 parade in Pleasant Valley. We are excited to reconnect with Rev. Barbara and look forward to her leadship as we march into the future.

Change is ‘a coming…and the June newsletter is here.
This will be a bittersweet month for us here at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church. Sunday, June 20th, will be the last Sunday for Pastor Mike and Karen to be in our church with our families. They will be continuing their life’s next adventure in Hawaii and we are going to sincerely miss them here. Pastor Mike, with Karen’s help, has led our church over the rough times during this crazy pandemic by not only facilitating all the electronic “stuff” that had to happen in order to provide an on-line worship service every Sunday, but also by being a strong guiding presence as we wondered just how things would work out. We know our God was always in control, but Pastor Mike’s calm assurance that we were a strong body of Christ and everything would work out just fine…as God intended..was reassuring. We wish safe travels, and many blessings to be showered upon them as they move forward along the pathway God has provided.
The Sunday School children met last week for the first time in many months and everyone was glad for this opportunity to learn more about our awesome God. The final day for Sunday School this year will be Sunday, June 27th, and the children and staff will host a BBQ luncheon following the worship service. Members of the congregation are invited to bring a dish to share and enjoy some much needed fellowhip time. After a summer off for fun, Sunday School will resume in the fall.
While meetings continue to be conducted via the internet, we are delighted that we are able to worship in person in our sanctuary. If you are fully vaccinated, masks are optional. Our choir is back and it’s wonderful to hear the voices singing praises to our God. Everyone is welcome to come worship with us on Sunday mornings at 10am!
