2009 Bean Hole Bean Supper Dates

Mark your calendars now!

  • June 13th
  • September 19th
  • October 24th

The church had its first Beanhole Bean Supper for 2009 on April 25th. The Beanhole Committee wants to thank all who participated for pitching in, many of whom wore more than one “hat,” and making it a major success. Final profits are not in, but all three seatings were well attended.

Many people stepped up and took on new responsibilities and the results of their efforts were awesome. We also appreciated volunteers who joined us for the first time. Thanks again for all your help. We also had many young people who waited tables and received many many compliments on their attentive service.

UMW Update: May 2009

Our meeting began with 14 ladies in attendance. The program for the evening involved packaging the Church World Service Mission Kits.

For several years our UMW unit has been able to provide quite a few of these kits that are used to provide supplies to those needing them around the world. Kits are made up of specific items needed for hygiene, for school supplies, and for baby care.

During the course of this year our ladies have been collecting the items for each kit in the hope of being able to increase the number of kits we can provide. This year we managed to complete at total of 42 kits; 13 health kits, 14 baby kits, and 15 school kits. Way to go, ladies!

During our business meeting plans were finalized for the annual Mother~Daughter Tea which will be held on Saturday, May 2nd from 2 to 4 PM. We hope that our church ladies, whatever their age, will come share this time of fun and fellowship.

No regularly scheduled meeting will take place in May so we’ll plan to gather again for our June meeting at Poochie’s home on Wednesday, June 3rd at 6:30 PM. As we always do to celebrate another successful year of the UMW, we’ll enjoy a potluck supper followed by a short business meeting, including election of officers for the fall season. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Tea!

Shalom,  Margo

May Letter from Pastor Lynne

PLA friend of mine e-mailed me this week, asking, ”What happened to Spring?” I had to agree. We seem to have gone from near winter 40’s to near summer 80’s in a weekend. What happened to Spring was a very good question.

It lead me to think about how fast time passes these days (not of course because I’m getting older). Time passes quickly as life around us changes quickly. Communications arrive in milliseconds from around the globe. New technology is developed that allows us to accomplish more faster, leaving us with more time on our hands to fritter
away with more and more technicological gadgets and gizmos that numb our brains and our children’s’ brains and now even our babies brains!

And church? What about church? It is 3 weeks after Easter and what happened to the lilies? The trumpets? The Alleluia’s? Where did the mystery, the wonder of the empty tomb that drew us further and further into the darkness of Christ’s death and then into the blazing light of His glorious resurrection disappear to?

It is still there you know. It comes back to life as soon as you start to recall it. Doesn’t it? That awe. That stirring of mystery and wonder. That longing to greet the One risen from the dead. Be it “By the Old Rugged Cross”. Or, in the garden – when you “Come to the Garden alone”.

Keep that mystery and stirring alive in your life. Join your fellow disciples and share that mystery and wonder. Share it those who may be faltering a bit and need some bolstering. Come and have yours bolstered when in need. Come just to join in the Alleluia choruses and make you praises known on high.

Peace,

Pastor Lynne
