Hospice Program

The United Methodist Women will be hosting a program on Hospice, presented by the Foothills Visiting Nurse Association, on Wednesday, March 2nd, at 7:00 pm.  Following the program, there will, of course, be refreshments, and then a short business meeting.  Anyone is welcome to attend.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper & Ash Wednesday Service

Once again the men of the church will be hosting the annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on March 8th, at 6:00 pm, in Fellowship Hall.  You’re welcome to join us for a yummy meal of pancakes, rumor has it including homemade potato pancakes, sausage, and real maple syrup.

On Wednesday evening, March 9th, our church family will begin Lent with a traditional Ash Wednesday worship service at 7:00 pm.  As this season of quiet reflection and preparation begins, leading to the death and resurrection of our Lord, why not continue your journey of faith with us here at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church.  You’re always welcome!

United Methodist Women’s group takes a summer break

UMW meetings regularly take place on the first Wednesday of each month.  However, during the months of July and August we’ll be taking a summer break.  During this time off, we’ll be wearing our ‘thinking caps’ to come up with program ideas for the upcoming year.  Our aim is to find some progams that will appeal to everyone and meet our criteria of the 3 F’s; faith, fun, fellowship.  Our meetings are open to all women of the church and we would love to welcome new faces to our group.

The next regular UMW meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 1st at 6:30 PM in Fellowship Hall.  We’ll begin as we ended, with a potluck supper, a time for fellowship to catch up with everyone’s lives, time to share in Devotions and to offer our thanks to our Heavenly Father for his gracious gifts in our lives.

For more information about our UMW unit, its mission and goals, or any of our activities, please speak with Margo Fenn.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

It has been known for hundreds of years that blankets or shawls bring warmth and security.  They can also carry in their stitches the peace and comfort of the Lord for those going through tough times when the shawls are specifically created by weaving prayers for security, serenity, comfort, healing, understanding, and most of all, love into its creation.

In the early months of 2010, several ladies at PVUMC decided to begin a Prayer Shawl Ministry.  As the knitting needles and crochet hooks flew, the stockpile of shawls quickly mounted.  After only two months of work, the group was able to drape the church sanctuary with 24 shawls to be blessed by Pastor Carl and the congregation.

These shawls, and more to come, will be ready to be sent to whoever is in need of being reminded that the Lord is with them always.  They will bring the love of not only the individual who created the shawl or blanket, but also the combined love and prayers from each member of the Prayer Shawl Ministry.

If you would like more information about our program, or would like to participate, please call the church office at 860-379-2157.

Tuesday Morning Prayer Group

Each Tuesday morning at 9:30 AM several ladies gather in the Parish House to review the selection of the day in The Upper Room, to study the word of God from the Bible passages, and to offer prayers for our friends and neighbors.  This group has been meeting continuously for several years, and welcomes anyone to come and join hands with this faithful group.

Summer Coffee Hour Starting June 20th

On Sunday, June 13th, Coffee Hour will be hosted by our Sunday School children and staff.  This gathering will mark the end of our “formal” Coffee Hours, but take heart…the Summer schedule is in the process of being completed.  For the final two Sundays in June, all Sundays in July and August, and the first Sunday in September volunteers will host a much simplier version of Coffee Hour.  But the best part will still be the wonderful opportunity for fellowship that is just too good to miss during the summer months.  Here’s the chance to see your church family and friends and catch up with all the summer activities going on.  If you would like to take a turn hosting Coffee Hour during the summer, speak with Janet LaGrange.

Vacation Bible School 2010 – Galactic Blast!

Hey Kids (and parents), mark your calendars and prepare to blast off for a cosmic adventure praising God!  Cadets will voyage into outer space through daily missions and will learn how to see our planet Earth with new perspectives.  They will also learn tips to practice at home to keep our earth “green”.

Vacation Bible School will take place Monday through Friday during the week of July 12th – 16th, from 5:45 pm to 8:15 pm.  Registration forms are available at the church office, or on the Bessie Table.  For more information or to register your child, please call the church at 860-379-2157.

Mother’s Market

On Saturday, May 15th, from 9 AM to 3 PM we will be hosting our first Mother’s Market.  This event is similar to a Vendor Fair but items for sale will be gently used baby and children’s clothes, maternity clothes, baby or children’s furniture, toys, or anything else that could be recycled and useful to someone else.  Table space will be purchased as follows:  6 foot tables for $10, 8 foot tables at $15, and outside, larger spaces for $20.  Those choosing to set up outside must provide their own table and shelter.  There will be a bake sale table and luncheon will be available.  Here’s a great opportunity to clean out some of those still-in-good-condition items that someone else could use.  For more information or to reserve your table space, call the church office at 860-379-2157.
