2011 Mother’s Day Tea a grand affair

The annual Mother’s Day Tea was again a successful event. The theme for this year was threefold: first was a celebration of Mother’s Day, the second was the UMW’s thank you to the ladies of the church for their support and participation in our group’s events during the year, and the third was just for fun to host a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. Some of our group dressed in costume, as you’ll see in the photos below. Guests had the opportunity to make a paperbag hat, and a chance to decorate (and eat) a cookie, as well as time to enjoy the goodies on the refreshment tables, including, of course, tea. Everyone had a wonderful time and we’re looking forward to doing it again next year.

A good time was had by all!

Coming Event: Mother’s Day Tea

It’s spring so it’s once again time for the United Methodist Women to host their annual Mother’s Day Tea. Plan to come on Saturday, April 30th from 2 to 4 PM and join in the fun. This year we’ll take a page from the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, so everyone is invited to come dressed as a favorite Alice in Wonderland character. There will be a couple of fun craft projects for the youngsters, an opportunity to have your family’s photo taken, and of course a lovely array of food to tempt you. This annual party is a way in which our UMW members can show their appreciation and thanks for all the ladies of the church who so generously support the group’s activities and events throughout the year. It’s sure to be an exciting time!

Easter Sunrise Service on TV

What a surprise to find that the traditional Easter Sunrise Service on Beach Rock in Barkhamsted this morning was featured on Fox News!  A reporter covered the early morning service which was hosted by North Congregational Church of New Hartford, First Congregational Church of Hartland, First Congregational Church of Barkhamsted, and Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church. Following the service, the traditional Community Breakfast, hosted this year by PVUMC, was the scene of an interview with Pastor Carl Franson. To check out the video of this interview, go to http://www.ctnow.com, then click on the video link for the Sunrise Service. Great start to a wonderful Easter celebration.

Coming Event: A Night for Missions

On Thursday, March 31st, at 7:00 PM Pastor Carl Franson, and his wife, Diann, will share their mission adventures in Bolivia from their trip last summer. They’ll present some pictures, bring some handcrafted items for sale, and share some of the warmth and love they felt as they traveled and spent time in Bolivia.  In addition, our own Dan Abbott, who also took part in this mission trip, will speak about his experiences.  Dan will also share his future plans which will take him to Africa this summer to work with missionaries there. Come hear about how God has touched the lives of these folks from Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church and how they are helping to touch the lives of others.

Coming Event: Tag Sale and Mother’s Market

On Saturday, May 14th, from 9 AM to 2 PM we will be hosting another Tag Sale and  Mother’s Market.  This event is similar to a Vendor Fair but items for sale will be gently used baby and children’s clothes, maternity clothes, baby or children’s furniture, toys, or anything else that could be recycled and useful to someone else.  Of course, tag sale items can be whatever the seller is willing to bring.  Table space will be purchased as follows:  8 foot tables inside for $20, and outside larger spaces will be available for $25.  Those choosing to set up outside must provide their own table and shelter.  There will be a bake sale table and luncheon will be available as well.  Here’s a great opportunity to clean out some of those still-in-good-condition items that someone else could use.  For more information or to reserve your table space, call the church office at 860-379-2157.
