Tag Sale

Our church will be hosting a tag sale on Saturday, September 14th. There will be plenty of interesting items to look over as well as a Bake Sale to tempt you. Remember that someone’s ‘trash’ is someone else’s treasure, so while you’re out enjoying the beauty of the day plan to stop in and find a treasure here. The sale begins at 9 AM and will conclude at 3 PM. All proceeds will be going to our capital campaign.

Rally Day’s a comin’!

Rally Day always marks the beginning our church’s fall activities, and we’ve got plenty going on at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church. Sunday, September 8th will see the start of Sunday School for all the children. Following the worship service, the Sunday School teachers and children will be hosting a wonderful coffee hour (I’ve hear some of the menu and it’s going to be awesome!).

On Saturday, September 21st we’ll host the first of the two fall Bean Hole Bean Suppers (the second supper will be on October 19th). See the Bean Hole tab across the top of the screen to find out about the menu, the times of service, and where to call to make reservations.

In October our church will host our annual Pumpkin Patch field trip for the Barkhamsted School kindergarten and first grade students. We provide several harvest/fall stories, some games, a healthy snack, and each child will leave with a small pumpkin to remember the event. Our Pumpkin Patch crew really enjoys seeing all the children come and reports indicate that this is one of the favorite field trips of the year for the children.

In November, our women’s group will again host the annual Christmas Fair. Here you’ll find handcrafted items, handmade knit and crochet items, a bake sale, and Attic Treasures. In addition you can have a photo taken with Santa, and then take time to enjoy a hearty homemade lunch in our Christmas Cafe. Plan to start your Christmas shopping with us!

As you can see, fall is a busy time at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church and we welcome you to not only come and enjoy our special events, but come to worship with us on Sunday mornings as well. Everyone is welcome!!

Sr. High Youth Group Bake Sale

Our high school youth group will be hosting a bake sale on Saturday, June 8th from 11AM – 4PM at the Walmart in Torrington. If you’re able, they would appreciate a donation of a baked good or two to help with the sale. Please bring your food item to the church at 10AM and Tom will transport it to Torrington for you. If you are unable to help with a donation of a baked item, why not stop in to the sale and pick up something for your family to enjoy. The money raised will help build the Youth Group treasury and go toward their various mission projects.

Mother’s Day Spring Fling Tea was an awesome time!

The annual Mother’s Day Tea, hosted by the United Methodist Women, was again a wonderful event. More than 60 ladies, and a few gents, enjoyed an afternoon of food, fun, and fellowship. There was a ‘tea cup’ auction, hat making and dress up parade, as well as an opportunity to have a family group photo taken. Our thanks to everyone who attended and made the day such fun, and especially to all the ladies, and Leigh and Jay, who worked so hard to ensure that everyone had a great time. Enjoy some pictures of the fun!

Holy Week Activities

Holy Week and Easter are coming very soon. Here is a list of the various activities that will take place at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church:

Palm Sunday, March 24th will offer a worship service at 9:30 AM in which the Sunday School children will bring the palms into the Sanctuary and help to distribute them to the congregation.

Maundy Thursday, March 28th will offer a special worship service and reading of the passion at 7:00 PM. Communion will also be served.

Good Friday, March 29th will offer an evening service commemorating the death of Jesus at 7:00 PM.

Easter Sunday Sunrise Service will take place, weather permitting, at 6:30 AM on Beach Rock in Barkhamsted. This service has a long-standing tradition of meeting at the top of the rock to greet the Son. The service is a combined effort of the North Congregational Church in New Hartford, the First Congregational Church of Barkhamsted (aka Barkhamsted Center Church), and Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church. Following the early morning service, a community breakfast will be hosted at the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church. Everyone is welcome to join in the fellowship.

Easter Sunday Worship Service will be held at 9:30 AM in the Sanctuary and will celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. A light coffee hour will be offered following the service.

Our church is open to all and we welcome visitors and new friends to join us in the worship and fellowship that we offer.

Something new in the parking lot!!

Have you noticed something new in the church parking lot? The Youth Group has started an initiative with St. Pauly to collect used clothing, shoes, blankets and linens, drapes, AND stuffed animals. If you’re thinking about cleaning out some items from your house this spring, remember this drop-off spot. All items are sorted, washed, and bundled, then sold to the Red Cross for use wherever there is a need. The Youth Group will be paid a small fee for coordinating this drop-off location which will be used to help support some of their mission projects. It is requested that all donations be in tied bags to avoid spillage all over the small space.
