Looking ahead to Mother’s Day…

Pastor Trudy is looking ahead…way ahead…to Mother’s Day and she is collecting things that a Mom would say. These phrases that you’ve heard or used will be consolidated into a presentation to celebrate moms on their special day. If you would like to contribute a mom-ism, please leave a comment on this post. The phrase will be passed along to Pastor Trudy. Comments will be screened for appropriate content prior to inclusion in our list.

Pastor suggestion….

Pastor Trudy has run across an interesting, informative, and fun website that she would like to share with everyone. It’s called Chuck Knows Church (see a link on the lower left side of the screen). Each week “Chuck” will post a lively and fun-filled video talk about various objects, symbols, and terms used in church. These episodes are produced for You, the general public, by the The United Methodist Church’s General Board of Discipline and they are FREE! Each week a new video will be revealed and, if you would like, you can even sign up to have them delivered to your email address. There are more details on the site, with explanations and directions, so please check it out!

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper and Lenten Study

The men of the church will be hosting their annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on March 4th, 2014 at 6:00 PM in Fellowship Hall. Everyone is welcome to come and share in the feast. A good-will offering will be collected to help with our church missions. Please come join us in our celebration of Shrove Tuesday and indulge in pancakes for supper!

Each Sunday after our coffee hour the congregation is invited to join in the Lenten Bible Study based on the book by Adam Hamilton entitled 24 Hours That Changed the World. The course will be led by Joann Little and Mindy-Lee Church, and will begin on March 2nd and continue through April 13th, following the worship service. Here is how Cokesbury described the course:

No single event in human history has received more attention than the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth. In this Lenten journey, Adam Hamilton guides us through the last twenty-four hours of Jesus’ life. Each chapter is designed to help the reader experience and understand the significance of Jesus’ suffering and death in a way you have never done before. Whether readers are long-time Christians or simply curious about the story of Christ’s crucifixion, they are invited to join the author in retracing the last 24 hours of Jesus’ life“.

Books can be ordered from Pastor Trudy or by leaving a message for Pam in the church office at 860-379-2157. Everyone is welcome to come learn about this cornerstone of our faith from an enlightening perspective.

Potluck Lunch on Sunday, February 9th

We’re going to celebrate winter with a potluck lunch on Sunday, February 9th, after the worship service. This lunch will replace our regular coffee hour. Please plan to bring your favorite dish with  you to church where it can be safely stored in the refrigerator or low oven while we’re all in the Sanctuary. And then we’ll share a ‘family meal’ together and have lots of time for fellowship too! What a great way to chase away the winter blues!

Christmas Services

Our Christmas services will be held at 7 PM and at 11 PM on Christmas Eve.  The early service is targeted toward families with children and will help the children welcome the birth of the baby Jesus.  The later service is a more traditional Candlelight Service as the congregation welcomes in the Prince of Peace.  All are welcome to come share in this time of joy and celebration.  Here’s wishing you all a blessed Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year!

Christmas Carol Sing and Open House

Everyone is invited to join us at the Christmas Carol Sing and Open House on Sunday, December 15th at 3 PM. Here’s your chance to sing your favorite songs of the season…just call out a hymn number! Or you may like to share a remembrance, a poem, play a song on a musical instrument, or celebrate the joy of Christmas in some other way. Or simply come and be a part of the fellowship. There will be light refreshments following the music, so plan to stay and visit with your neighbors.

May you have a very Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year!

Advent Bible Study 2013

Yesterday was the first Sunday in Advent. There is an interesting Bible study taking place following the Sunday morning worship services. It is based on the James W. Moore book “Finding Bethlehem in the Midst of Bedlam”. Here’s how the author describes the study:

“Christmas or confusion, Bethlehem or bedlam . . . Which will you choose this year? The truth is, we don’t have to choose, because Christmas always happens right in the midst of our confusion. God breaks into our confusion and is made known in Jesus Christ. Christmas and confusion–weren’t they intimately related at the first Christmas when Jesus was born? Sometimes we forget that. But, that’s what this study is about–how Christ breaks into our chaos and confusion and brings Christmas–how Bethlehem always happens in the midst of bedlam. This thematic Advent study for 2013 has five sessions–one for each Sunday of Advent and one for Christmas. Each chapter includes questions for reflection and discussion, a brief prayer, a focus for the week, and six daily Bible readings for personal devotional time during the week.”

It’s not too late to join in the discussions. If you’re interested, please speak with Pastor Trudy.

All Saints’ Day Remembrances
